Page 16 February 28 - March 6, 2022 BY JAY BOBBIN If it's March – which it almost is – it must be "31 Days of Oscar" on Turner Classic Movies again. This time, every feature shown is an Academy Award winner (nominees usually are included as well), and a great example comes early in the festival: director Billy Wilder's 1960 comedy-drama "The Apartment," which TCM shows Thursday, March 3. Jack Lemmon is terrific as an office drone known to some company executives as "Buddy Boy," largely because he loans his apartment to them so they can have secret trysts there. Once the big boss (Fred MacMurray) learns of the scheme, he wants in, too ... but when Bud discovers the mistress is the elevator operator (Shirley MacLaine) he admires himself, he starts thinking differently about lending his key. "The Apartment" is fabulous from start to finish, and it has held up quite well over 60-plus years, with one of the all-time-great closing lines in movies.
