At the 141st Anniversary Convention -- N e w Orleans, 2005 –National
President Mike Pitcher announced The Leadership Initiative, an
active campaign for Theta Xi to b e c o m e a premier leadership
fraternity. The decision to start this Initiative flowed largely from the
ever-changing demands of the post-college world, and from a shift
among most Greek organizations to b e c o m e more values based in
their programming .
The Fraternity moved to shape its programming to better facilitate
the development of each individual brother's leadership skills. From
this decision, the Leadership Initiative was created. The Leadership
Initiative is broad in scope and includes several components . A m o n g
these, notably, are the three national and district leadership
academies for undergraduates.
Associate members have a leadership program designed specifically
for them, giving them leadership opportunities from the start of their
membership! The Rising Stars Academy concentrates on providing
attendees an opportunity to assess and develop their leadership
styles and skills, in an interactive and experiential setting. Along with
meeting new members from across the country, they gather ideas
they can take back to strengthen their chapters in the areas of
recruitment, membership education and overall operations. Team
building skills are strengthened by accomplishing tasks presented
an exciting outdoor leadership challenge course. More than 7
attendees go on to assume key leadership roles in the
first 18 months, including many as Chapter P r e s i d e n t .
