5 THE STUDENT HOUSING MARKET AT OSU W hat does it look like to live in a fraternity house, dorm, or apartment today? If you've had a child or grandchild attend a university in the last five to ten years, you know the expectation students and parents have for their housing dollars. Today's undergraduate demands a superior product at a competitive price that provides the amenities they require. OSU's dormitories and off-campus living options are providing value for their cost. Furthermore, the number of apartment complexes in Stillwater increases each year, and the amenities include covered parking, convenient household appliances, and fitness rooms. While we have no intention of providing all these amenities, we can provide an excellent product that students appreciate and enjoy. Over the last ten years, the Oklahoma State fraternity scene has evolved—much like the OSU campus. With significant investments being made in on-campus facilities, our peer fraternities have seen the need to mirror the university by making significant investments toward upgrading or replacing their residential facilities. Six new fraternity houses have been built in the last ten years at OSU, and a seventh is under construction. Alpha Gamma Rho, Beta eta Pi, Delta Tau Delta, FarmHouse, Phi Gamma Delta, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Nu, and Sigma Phi Epsilon have not only initiated major fundraising campaigns, but have also completed construction on new facilities to address their housing needs. e fraternity campaigns at OSU boast some of the highest fundraising results in the nation. e number of sorority housing projects are equally as impressive. Alpha Delta Pi, Chi Omega, Gamma Phi Beta, Pi Beta Phi, and Kappa Alpha eta have completed or are in the process of completing rebuilds or major renovation projects. As of today, Chi Omega at OSU has the title of the largest sorority campaign in the nation. Built in 1981, our Sigma Chi home at 1101 W. University Avenue has gone through many changes over the decades to meet the needs of each era. Brothers have made the most of what they have, but we know they cannot keep this up forever. If they are to continue competing at the highest level at OSU, they need an updated space to live and gather. By providing a first-class facility, we will ensure Sigma Chi is not being le behind as other fraternities and sororities complete major projects.
