Quartzsite needs the QIA, and the QIA needs a new roof. The QIA began when Quartzsite was just a Stagecoach Stop at what is now the intersection of Interstate high- way 10 and US95. Just a dusty little town: with no electricity, no TV. No movie houses. Nothing in the way of entertainment and a lot of need for "improvement". Thus, the name Quartzsite Improvement Associa- tion (QIA) was born. The QIA still provides much in the way of entertainment, education and economic development contribut- ing mightily to the "improvement of Quartzsite". With the infl ux of winter visitors fi lls the coffers of local busi- nesses which helps sustains them through the hot summer months. Most of the visitors are enticed by our annual rock, gem and mineral show called the Pow Wow and our musical Dinner Shows and events sponsored by the QIA. 36 years later the QIA is in des- perate need a new roof. The county Courts employ 20 staff, but Supervisor David Plunkett said they need to reduce staff to 11 at the most. He said, he attended Save the Courts Town Halls, but he is more focused on to "Save the County." Supervisor Duce Minor said, "We have been told that we have to deal with what is in front of us to save our county. The courts were not the fi rst thing to look at and it won't be the last." Supervisor Holly Irwin said she wanted to keep services open to the ru- ral commuities. Plunkett moved to consolidate the courts to one court in Parker to take effect December 31, 2022. The whole county would in one district, to become JP1. Minor seconded the motion. Holly Irwin voted nay. Spielman said there is a lot of work ahead.
