Rotary International's motto for 20132014 year is "Engage Rotary, Change Lives" we take that to heart and in our everyday actions. We are Rotarians to be of service to our community, as in "Service Above Self". Rotary is a tremendous network not just locally but internationally. Business Leaders in the community can connect and reach out to people in need. If you are a Business owner and would like to be of service for our community, please contact us. LIVE SMOKE-FREE Second-hand smoke kills 53,000 people a year. It's no longer a business issue; it's a public emergency. It's has been an involved process to set up our main Community Service for our Town of Quartzsite. We are obtaining both suppliers who will help us as Sponsors and for Volunteers both with contracting licenses and other "worker bees" to accomplish what is needed. The Rotary will be paying for the material and supplies for minor projects and hopefully most of the labor will be from generous Quartzsite citizens volunteering their time side-by-side with us. We hope you can see the magnitude of this and how important it is to help our Senior Citizens live in a safe and healthy environment. We'll need a lot of volunteers to help with projects such as: errands, small repairs, emergency contacts and even short visits so our senior citizens can see a helpful and friendly face. We will keep you updated as we finish our preparation. Volunteers are needed and welcome! If you can volunteer 10 hours per month or only 1-2 hours per month, we need you. If you can donate your expertise as in contracting a few hours or more out of a month, we need you. It takes more than the Rotary to make this successful to help our Senior Townspeople; it takes the entire Town. Just Rambling... We awoke at five one morning, by the sound of a hard rubber ball bouncing off the walls. The cat was playing an intense game of soccer solitaire. He usually jumps up and down on our feet, about six am playing with a twist tie. I hope he never grows up. July 17, 2013 If you have any questions, comments or are willing to donate your time or money to this wonderful cause, please email us at: quartzsite_rotary@nethere.com, write to: PO Box 2425, 85346, or speak to a Quartzsite Rotarian. Quartzsite Rotary Events coming up this Winter Season: "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" Golf Tournament (Scramble) Dec. 27, 2013 2nd Annual Black n White Valentine's Dinner on February 15, 2014 (funding QRNHN) Another Golf Tournament funding Student Scholarships will be held in March, 2014. We'll also have a raffle or two to help fund our Community Service Projects. The last item to report is that we are working on a plan to organize all Charity Organizations, Churches, Town Emergency Centers, etc. into one related Call List so the proper contacts can be made when Quartzsite Residents are in need. In the meantime, let's all watch out for each other, keep cool as possible and drink plenty of water! Email us at: quartzsite_ rotary@nethere.com. Urgent food pantry needs Quartzsite Food Bank is in urgent need. They are currently facing shortages in many of the staple products such as rice, peanut butter, meals in a can, cereal, Rice-a-Roni, canned soup, canned fruits, and many non-perishable food items. If you can help, please bring donations to Quartzsite Food Bank located on 40 N. Moon Mountain Ave. just north of the Senior Center. Hours of operation are Tuesday and Thursday from 8am – noon. Summer is a challenging time for Quartzsite's Food Bank, as donations dwindle, but demand is increasing due to economic issues. Support comes from stores, individuals, and at this time of year from churches and other groups. "We have a great group of donors in our community," said Carol Kelley, "but we need help from everyone now." The Food Bank provides food to anyone in need; Low income families with children, the "working poor", the unemployed, disabled residents, seniors, low income individuals with a chronic illness, the mentally ill and the homeless.Drop off donations Tue & Thu: 8:00-12:00 noon at 40 N.
