July 17, 2013 13 www.DesertMessenger.com Quartzsite Community Thrift Store makes more donations By Joanne Winer The Quartzsite Community Thrift Store is not as busy now as it is during the winter months, but they were still able to give out some funds to two very worthy organizations this month, the Quartzsite Senior Citizens Center and the Quartzsite Fire Dept. President Les Leaf and Treasurer Sue MacCracken from the Senior Center received a check for $1,000; and the Fire Dept. got another check for $500. This time. This brings the total of funds they have given back to the community since they opened two years ago to $19,500.00 with more being planned as available. This would not be possible if not for the generosity of people who bring things to sell at the store and to the customers who buy them--and also to all the wonderful volunteers who process all the items and work so hard to help the town. Donations are always welcome during open days Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or you can call Jini at 916-7338 if you need things picked up. All donations are greatly appreciated. The Eatery is also sponsoring a dessert social for the Quartzsite Community Thrift Store on Sunday, July 21 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. All the proceeds from this event will go back to worthy organizations in our community--a very good reason to come out and support this group and its efforts.
