BQP THETA DELTA THETA DELTA DRAGON DRAGON Beta Theta Pi at The Ohio State University • Fall 2021 Dean Danny Glassman Visits Beta House A Recap of the Tour O n September 23, Dean of Students Danny Glassman toured the Chapter House with Teri Cugliari, associate director of housing for Sorority and Fraternity Life. e tour went extremely well. Alumni Association member John Dilley '67 led the tour, along with Michael O'Hara '23, Chapter vice president of operations. Prior to the tour, John also met with Michael Shcharber '22, Chapter president, and Kendall Beard, house director. John gave a history of eta Delta and the six houses that started in 1885. We started in the foyer and covered all the plaques on the walls, including Fred Cornell, Carmen Ohio 1906, Dave Wright '67, and David Brennan '53, as well as the coat of arms on the floor. ey also talked about the George Bellows 1905 sketches in the foyer and living room, including the plaque of the four brothers who made the new house a reality. Next came the dining room and kitchen, with two Campus Cooks chefs in action. ey took the elevator to the lower level and showed off the study rooms and the Chapter door with 1907 original hardware. e brothers then showed Dean Glassman and Teri Cugliari the Wall of Scrolls, with the two Chapter founders who have OSU buildings named aer them, Wilbur Henry Siebert 1888 and William Reed Pomerene, #1 on the rolls. ey also mentioned James Haverfield '39, who died in the Pearl Harbor attack on the USS Arizona. Haverfield Hall is named aer him. ey went up to the second floor to see the larger study room and Room 207, where six brothers were watching football. e group finished up a couple of minutes early, so we had a short chat before moving on to Chi Omega house. ey visited only three Greek houses in total. e two were very impressed with the facility and eta Delta Chapter of Beta eta Pi; it was an honor to host them. Five years may not sound very long, but our Fraternity home is subject to upward of 150 undergraduate members and their guests. We have been fortunate that our members have done a great job in keeping the house in good shape. e house was designed and built with the latest in technology and upgrades (no cement block walls like the old house!). We know, however, how quickly technology can change. With COVID-19 restrictions, many classes are now held remotely, and our members are spending much more time in the Beta house for online courses than five years ago. is change has required upgrades to network and phone service. (No tearing down walls or anything close to that!) is will likely be on our radar annually. Beta has the most updated system of any Greek house at e Ohio State University.
