A note from Mayor Peter Christie I am so proud to see this city continuing to prosper in multiple ways, despite the ongoing global pandemic. I have not only this city's staff and uniformed personnel to thank for that, but the residents who live here and ultimately make Bella Vista – in my humble opinion – the greatest city in our region and even state. e year 2021 continued to place Bella Vista on the map as an outdoor recreation destination, to visit and to live. While we celebrated nearly 100 miles of so-surface purpose-built trails when the Little Sugar trail system opened in 2020, we were pleased in 2021 to add a section of hard surface greenway — the Blowing Springs Greenway — connecting one of our most densely populated residential areas to the existing Razorback Greenway. is 3-mile stretch of concrete trail connects the Metfield area to the Razorback Greenway at Blowing Springs, which can then be taken another nearly 40 miles all the way to Fayetteville. We've seen so many people enjoying this trail – runners, walkers, cyclists, kids and adults alike. New residential building permits continued to rise in 2021, topping out at 581 – 39% higher than the year before. Each year brings more growth to the area and new construction means infrastructure challenges. However, in 2021 we went all in and increased the number of miles of roads in our annual resurfacing program to 59 miles. is is the most miles resurfaced in one year that we've seen in the last decade. e decision for this increase allowed us to get caught up on the list of residential streets in disrepair. But since we have continued to be financially stable throughout the pandemic, the extra money spent on this project did not negatively impact our budget. I also cannot brag on our Fire and EMS Department enough. At the start of 2020 and the first availability of covid-19 vaccines, our Community Paramedics hosted vaccine clinics in our city – leading us to become the first municipality in the President Brent A.
