p ublisher of three people. Now, she is leaving our company to be with her family. Her husband is returning from a military deployment, and she needed more time with him and their 18-month-old daughter. My father employed as many as 90 women over 25 years, and he always told me not to get too attached to good employees. They’ll break your heart, he said. Well, Ashlee has done just that. She did so many things to make our little publishing company succeed that the space here does not allow a full explanation. When she first applied for the job, I was so impressed I decided to call her references just to make sure I was not being swayed by a good interview. All of them had marvelous things to say about Ashlee but one stands out. A woman in Charlotte told me that if she could only have Ashlee back, she would sacrifice some of her own salary to make it work. With such a glowing report, I asked if she was Ashlee’s mother, and we both laughed. We, too, will always have a place for Ashlee at CityView, a magazine she helped A farewell F build. It is with sadness that we wish her goodbye but happiness that we welcome a new member of the staff. Patty Geren joins CityView as new general manager. Patty comes to us from Los Gatos, Calif., where she worked as senior accountant for the San Jose Earthquakes, a Major League Soccer team. Local legend dies Paul Snell spent 60 of his 85 years in Fayetteville and died May 23. Most people that knew Paul affectionately called him “Windy.” People thought the nickname came from his gift of gab, but its origins date back to his early days in Fayetteville. The late M.J. Soffe once said, “Paul is the only man that has done everything, been everywhere, seen everything, including the wind.” The name stuck. Paul loved to debate, watch movies and buy cars. I asked one of the many car dealers at his funeral just how many cars Paul bought over the years and he said at least 35. He bought from them all. He touched many people with his humor and kindness. We loved Paul, and Fayetteville will miss him. And a welcome to a new member of the staff or 30 years, I have employed dozens of employees, many of whom have been extraordinarily dedicated to their jobs. Ashlee Cleveland is one of them. God sent her to CityView four years ago, and it’s because of his providence that we are a successful, thriving publication today.
