Early into the global COVID-19
pandemic, many businesses and
schools shut down due to a "stay-at-
home" order to enact social distanc-
ing amongst more than 310 million
Americans nationwide. Unfortunate-
ly, most local Pearson Vue testing
centers closed, forcing test-takers to
sit for certification exams remotely.
Despite the increasing restrictions,
Fayetteville Technical Community
College established a contract with
Pearson Vue to administer certifica-
tion and licensure exams officially.
Tenette Prevatte, FTCC's Dean of
Computer Information Technology,
had a vision in which students, fac-
ulty, and anyone in the community
could take professional certification
exams in a safe, secure, local envi-
ronment.
FTCC became a Pearson Vue
authorized testing center in May
2021. Pearson Vue is a global leader
in computer-based testing, offering
exams worldwide for certifications
and licensure related to healthcare,
teacher certification, information
technology and many others. To
date, more than 1,000 exams have
been administered to FTCC faculty,
staff, students and members of the
community. e testing center's ca-
pability is 15 test-takers at one time.
Recently, the testing center hosted
a group of Academy of Information
Technology students from Gray's
Creek High School who sat for the
CompTIA A+ industry certifica-
tion exam. In previous years, these
students would spend as much as
eight hours in a local testing center
that could only accommodate four
students at a time.
ese students are part of FTCC's
High School Connections program
and take College classes on their
high school campus during the 11th
grade; during their senior year, they
come to FTCC's campus to take
classes.
High School Connections classes
are offered at no cost to Cumberland
County School students. For more

Connections program, contact hsc@

e amount of time test-takers are

scheduled appointment times differs
for each program. Test-takers will
receive a confirmation email with
program-specific information.
