2 The Beta Mu Review O n October 16, Beta Mu's open house and house dedication was enjoyed by many alumni, spouses, family and guests. If spirits were dampened by the Longhorn's loss on the gridiron earlier that day to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, attitudes were certainly buoyed once entering the new Pike house. Open for just over one year, this event was long-anticipated since the pandemic delayed our grand opening. Guests enjoyed touring the three stories of the new fraternity house and meeting the undergraduate chapter; the day was a great success filled with food, beverages, socializing and mingling. The newly created Beta Mu Alumni Association presented four new alumni awards, the Beta Mu Legends Awards, for professional achievement and dedication to Pike values. • Tom Peel '73 presented the Founders' Award to the Parrott family in recognition of the late Harman Parrott '46, "presented posthumously in memory of an alumnus for years of lifelong, dedicated service to the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity." • Martin Dies '68 received the Distinguished Leadership Award from Jay Messer '69, "recognizing an alumnus for extraordinary business and community leadership while upholding the traditions and values of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity." • Conner Mowles '07 received the Under 40 Achievement Award from Russ Keene '80, "recognizing a young alumnus for accomplishments in life after college, who displays personal achievement and continued service to the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity." • The Oak Service Award was presented to Don Flournoy '66 by Doug Phelan '65 in "recognition of Don's many selfless years of volunteerism as Beta Mu Building Co. president." We were honored to have as special guests former Pi Kappa International presidents, and father and son John Michael Williams '68 and Shad Williams '90 from Gamma Chi Chapter at Oklahoma State University. Both shared memories of visiting Beta Mu during their presidencies and involvement with the national staff. They also complimented the commitment of Beta Mu donors for providing a modern, safe fraternity house to sustain the chapter. Stay tuned for a March 2022 Founders' Day celebration in Austin, and plan for an annual Alumni Day around a fall football game tailgate in the years ahead. Beta Mu Legends Awards Presented to Dies, Flournoy, Mowles and Parrott Family Beta Mu Alumni Enjoy October Reception in New Pike House Doug Phelan '65 presents Don Flournoy '66 with the Oak Service Award for Don's many years of service to Beta Mu Building Co. Alumni, guests and actives enjoy a sunny fall afternoon on the Pike sport court. Jeff French '92, Steven Krauskopf '92 and their wives enjoyed connecting at the October Alumni Open House. Conner Mowles '07 receives the new Beta Mu Under 40 Award from Russ Keene '80. The ever-popular Tucker Graves '78 was a hit with Pike wives Pat Ford, Robin Mertz and Cindy Lucas. Todd Stanley '91, Baret Meazell '91 and Alumni Advisory Board member Tom Walsh '93 agree the new house is a bit of an upgrade from the old house! www.texaspike.com
