November 17, 2021 www.DesertMessenger.com 21 Quartzsite Events Online: www.QuartzsiteCalendar.com Monday after the game, "Congratula- tions to the Frogs Football Team on a great season... Thank you to our se- nior, Nick, for your amazing contri- butions to the Frogs Program for four years!!! Next year it's on!" In a spookier turn of events Trunk or Treat is back in black… and green and white this Friday, October 29th! To set the stage, on Thursday 28th, Yearbook class will be hosting a costume competi- tion, prizes will be given for the best dressed students. Then, on Friday night, Sa- lome High School will be hosting a trunk or treat. The event will start at 6:00 p.m. Many classes and clubs will have games in the cafeteria, there will be a haunted house behind the gym, and people will be giving away candy throughout the school. Many years ago, after no kids showed up in her neighborhood one Halloween, Ms. Slucas started the trunk or treat tradition so kids in the community would have a safe place to go trick or treating. We asked Senior, Kariz Gal- endez, what he would dress up as. He told us that he and Ellie Jagroop will do a couple's costumes dressing up as the Joker and Harley Quinn because, "Halloween is about having fun and dressing up!" In colder news, the FBLA took a trip to Phoenix on October 21st. FBLA ad- visor Mrs. Stacy took four students to the annual FBLA On Ice event. The students learned a lot about leader- ship and business and they even got to watch a Coyotes game! We asked some of the FBLA members what they thought about the trip. Senior Uriel said that the trip was "amazing", that it was a new experience, it was good for team building, and that in busi- ness you should always have a part- ner that can lessen your weaknesses. Jacqueline, who is a junior, was also asked about the FBLA trip. She said that it was fun, and that they learned about how to get involved, and how to be interactive. She also said that it was a great new experience. --Trevon Tapp Salome High School updates The net is fi nally going to drop after a long and exciting season! There are only two games left for our Lady Frogs Volleyball team. The varsity girls play at home on October 25th vs. PDSD and on October 27, JV and varsity play at North Phoenix Prep. As the season comes to a close we want to give thanks to the senior girls for the amazing last four years. Good work Katie Watlington, Elizabeth Huhtala, Hope Freedman, Eli- yah Jagroop, Lizbeth Mariscal and Catarina Palma! We asked head Coach, Kari Avila, about how this season went as a whole. She responded, "We had 32 girls come out for vol- leyball this year, the larg- est number in 15 years. We added a freshman/sopho- more level this season. We had a great group of athletes, and they were able to play as a team even when last minute changes to the roster were made." It was a unique year for Vol- leyball and we'd like to shout out all the girls who worked together to make the season great. The Frog Football Team ended their season with a great play-off game against El Capitan last Saturday, Oc- tober 23rd. The community showed great support for our team with huge donations to help the boys out on their 12 hour round trip, over two days, for the game. They are very ap- preciative to everyone who donated, it defi nitely made the experience more memorable and helped out a ton! Unfortunately, the Frog's weren't able to pull off the win, but they still played a really great game. The frogs returned a fumble to take the lead in the last minutes but El Capitan were able to complete a pass into the end- zone in the last second, fi nalizing the score at 52-50. "The season was way better than it was last year, in every category: conditioning, game plan- ning, studying, executing, and educa- tion," senior Nick Dautel said. To the underclassmen he said, "Keep your grades up and play every play like it's your last." The frogs had a great sea- son, ending 6-3.
