November 17, 2021 www.DesertMessenger.com 9 The Salvation Army happenings So happy to be able to communi- cate with our Desert Messenger Pa- trons. Things to know about your local Quartzsite Salvation Army: We are both a Thrift Store and a Service Center. Thrift Store for a fun shopping ad- venture is on Winter Hours; Tues- day, Wednesday, and Thursday 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. We can do a curb- side sale before and after hours for specifi c needed item, such as coffee pot stops working, crockpot crashes and company is coming, etc. Service Center is for urgent assis- tance with a phone call. You have a need for crutches, walker, wheel- chair, or other basic medical equip- ment. We can respond with local police, fi re, and other agencies for emergency assistance as requested. We have many resources to lend a hand up to our community members in need of our help and support. We have a year-round availability of school supplies and backpacks for our school aged children. Be- cause we have been blessed with monetary gifts, as well as donated supplies, we are now including Pre-School to 12th Graders. We purchased many items as well and received 100 backpacks with some supplies from the greater Phoenix TSA collection drive. Face coverings are required with nose and mouth covered. We are also using the one camel six-foot safe social dis- tancing. Hand sanitizer is available around the store We continue to sani- tize carts/baskets, counters, as well as most donations. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Donations continue to be received on our porch area. Yes, it is fi ne to bring clothing in on hangers if you like. We must take all items out of boxes and bags, and sort into our carts. Thanks for your patience and understanding that at times we get backed up at the smaller sorting area. Larger loads may be arranged for a drop off time with a phone call. It is time to think about becom- ing a Salvation Army Bell Ringer. Volunteers must follow CDC safety protocols. You can pick your day, time and we have a choice of loca- tions, too. 100% of funds collected remain in Quartzsite. These funds provide for those in need in our community. We begin Monday, No- vember 29th. You will have a fun time. Please come in and get an ap- plication. THANKS! Again, this year registration for our Angel Tree will be accepted by phone call only. The application is a comprehensive interview, so please call after we close. We will start tak- ing interviews starting November 15th through November 25th. Our Angel Tree tags will be on our tree after Thanksgiving for those pa- trons that earn their Angel wings by shopping for a child in need. We will also have our extravagan- za Santa Event, pictures with Mr. & Mrs. Santa Saturday, December 18th. Time will be 9 to 1. Penny, from Parents as Teachers® has already requested a table. She always has a fun activity for the kiddos. We will have a ton of toys that children can choose from, new backpacks, socks, books, build a project kits, and so much more. We will do this event as last year, with social distancing as- sisted by local Quartzsite Police, Ex- plorers and Fire Department. Follow us on our Facebook Page for weekly sales and announce- ments. (Salvation Army Thrift Store, Quartzsite AZ.). "You will face many defeats in your life, but never let yourself be defeated." ~MayaAngelou Worrying = A waste of time. Good things and bad things will happen in life. You must keep living and try not to stress over what you cannot control. Be happy! The fundraising dinner for Sgt. Rudd's family was a perfect example of that. With help and support from so many amazing community mem- bers we pulled off a benefi t for the family. We received very generous dona- tions from Glen and Wes of Dis- count Groceries, Kym Scott from Tyson Wells, Jon Beydler from Vots Real Estate, Tom Young from RV Pit Stop, Larry Lord from In Store Storage, Best Auto, Pilot, Coyote Fresh, Roadrunner Market, Ken's Grocery Outlet and The Quartzsite Area Chambet of Commerce and Tourism. Ken of Discount Grocers, Lenora from Roadrunner gifts, and Chandra also donated some amaz- ing raffl e items. The food bank allowed us the use of their freezers and coolers to store perishables and their vol- unteers were awesome! Lyle Race from Lone Steer BBQ brought his food truck and helped with all the cooking. The Town of Quartzsite donated the use of the community center and staff to help with setup. The 4-H Kids and their leaders and parents helped with setup, serving and clean up. And of course, the community who showed up to show your support for this fallen offi cer's family and our Sherriff's dept. I also understand that there were a few donations that came in late and the family has received those, too. And last, but defi nitely not least, Shanana Rain Bear, who always stands right beside me any time I try to take on one of these events, helping every step of the way. I am so grateful to each and every one of you. You are what makes Quartzsite the community I love.
