Creating Connections at 238 E. Maxwell Creating Connections at 238 E. Maxwell Beta Chi Chapter House Filled with Activity Once Again hope this finds you safe, healthy, and hanging in there. It's been a little over a year since our last newsletter, and it feels good to share all that's been going on at 238 E. Maxwell. Fall is always an incredible time in Lexington, and we know everyone is excited to get back to football games, celebrating Founders' Day, and Keeneland— our season staples. The Beta Chi house has been full of activity since active members moved back in mid- August. The chapter completed in-person recruitment over Labor Day weekend, and it was wonderful to see everyone after last year's virtual event. The house continues to serve as a fantastic host to our potential new members during recruitment. We were also able to host Spirit Week, with current chapter members at the house ahead of school starting, A Rewarding Career Ms. Marcy Knabe Cherishes Her Time as a Housemother in preparation for recruitment. Given last year's COVID-19 university protocols, this was the first time many members of the 2020 pledge class have been able to enjoy all the amenities the house has to offer. We are looking forward to many more events and chapter members at the house this school year. The house is a vital part of how women can grow in their Kappa experience. We remain one of the few houses on campus that has a facility large enough to support its full membership for events, which is more important now than ever. The Beta Chi house is a hub for building community and creating connections for the current members. Again, on behalf of the house board, I want to thank everyone who has generously donated to the campaign efforts. I am still blown away by the success of the campaign and honoring the pledges that are made. If you are still thinking about giving and haven't had a chance, please contact me or visit Donate.kappa.org/ BetaChiHouse. We, like several organizations, have experienced changes due to COVID-19. There's been a decline in the number of women participating in recruitment and the number of women wanting to live in a communal space. We know this change won't last forever, but we would appreciate your support during these unprecedented times. Enjoy the additional updates in the newsletter. We look forward to seeing you all at 238 E. Maxwell soon! Loyally, Katti Bowling Nash '02 Campaign Chairman katti.nash@gmail.com here's something special about a career where someone truly enjoys what they do. Ms. Marcy Knabe looks forward to work each day as a housemother for Kappa Kappa Gamma at the University of Kentucky. While she wasn't in a sorority herself, Ms. Marcy was a part of Job's Daughters, which focused on giving back to the community and felt like a sorority in its own way. Her journey as a housemother, however, began in 2003 when she was the chef for Pi Beta Phi at the University of Kentucky. She learned from the house director, Suzanne, that there were other house directors who wanted to take time off, so Ms. Marcy took the opportunity to housesit for them. She filled in for Candace, a housemother at Alpha Delta Pi, every other weekend for three years and fell in love with it. Ms. Marcy took a variety of housemother positions throughout the years. She worked in Tri Delta, Pi Kappa Phi, and Acacia at Louisiana State University. While Ms. Marcy loved working at these chapters, it was important for her to be close to family, and she found it was time to return to Kentucky. She started her position at Kappa Kappa Gamma in August 2021 and knows she made the right decision. There are many rewards to being a housemother. "You get to see them grow," Ms. Marcy said. "I've been to many weddings, I watch them have children, and I stay in contact with them." Ms. Marcy cherishes her job. She learns so much from the girls and appreciates the fun Continued on page 2 Marcy Knabe B E T A C H I N E W S L E T T E R O F K A P P A K A P P A G A M M A FA L L 2 0 2 1
