The first streetcar was powered by steam, but because
the horses and mules on the streets were frightened
by the steam engine, it was soon replaced by a trolley
that had a gasoline engine. Later it was replaced by an
electric trolley.
A hand-colored photograph shows one of three street cars
that ran from Haymount Hill through downtown Fayetteville to
the Massey Hill area from 1906 until 1919.
These men operated The Fayetteville
Trolley System.
