the trail, in the brush and along the creek bed. I've been learning about the symbols of America in my schoolwork so I made my sculpture about the U.S.A. I found an old spray bottle and it looked like a robot body, so I figured out a way to use the garbage I had for different parts of the robot." 5. Andrew, age 5, bentonville – "The mask maker" "I wanted to make a scary mask. My favorite part was picking up the trash, it was like a treasure hunt. I wanted to keep all the trash for more projects. I like being in nature. Picking up trash is the right thing to do." 6. elijah, age 9, bentonville – "Wings of glass" "I love all kinds of art and I've been wanting to try and learn how to make stained glass for a while. When I saw how much glass litter there was, I had the idea to use it to make a stained- glass sculpture. My dad had the soldering iron and stuff and with the help of YouTube tutorials and library books I was able to figure it out. It was a lot harder than I thought, but really fun too. I like nature a lot so it made sense to make something found in nature." 7. Logan, age 10, Logan 4-H Club – "Farm Scene" "I found my materials by stopping my parents from throwing away boxes. I used scraps of construction paper. I also used old Dixie cups. I learned how to hot glue things and I only burned myself once! It's good idea to recycle and reuse things instead of throwing them away to help the environment, because most of the trash ends up in the ocean." 8. Aubree age 9, Cave Springs 4-H Club – "recycling Helps the World bloom" "I used a glue gun and things from the recycle bin to make my sculpture. I loved making a color pattern with the flower petals. Recycling is good for the earth!" 9. Syndey age 10, Cave Springs 4-H Club – "Cute monster" "I used a barley box, 2 bottle caps, a food tray, a brown paper sack, paint, and hot glue to make my monster. I got my items from the recycle bin. I researched ways online to use recycled materials and found cute monsters, so I decided to make my own. Painting was my favorite part. It's scary not to recycle! If we don't, trash would fill up the earth! 10. Yenuli age 13, bentonville 4-H Club – "mushroom Scenery" 1st place Senior Division "I made my sculpture using different types of litter such as bubble wrap, cardboard, tissue paper, Styrofoam, plastic, and more. I picked up litter around my neighborhood streets, park, and trails. I was able to come up with this idea through my love for nature, specifically mushrooms! I definitely had fun doing this project! Recycling and reusing things are a much better idea than throwing it away as it preserves the Earth and its beauty. On top of that, it can enhance your creativity when creating something out of it!" 11. riley, age 12, Cannonball 4-H Club – "The re-usement Park" 2nd place Senior Division "I found all the supplies by walking down the road and picking up anything I see. As I was thinking about the Benton County Fair, I thought that I should make an amusement park and making some of the rides into my creation. I really loved trying to figure out what to build next and what to make it out of. It is good to recycle and reuse because it makes the world a little bit cleaner place and if people start recycling one by one, everything would be so much better." 12. Youth group Aubree and Syndey, Cave Springs 4-H Club – "Finding Nemo: Finding Ways to recycle and reuse" 1st place Youth group Division "We took a box and we painted it blue to look like a fish tank. Then we dug through a bunch of recycled items and made the ocean animals. We watch Finding Nemo all the time and thought it would be fun to make. Recycling is good for the earth. You can make fun and beautiful art from stuff that would end up in the landfill." 10 3 5 9 1 4 "I liked making the turtle from a lemon juice bottle, soda tabs, and cardboard because I LoVe turtles. I loved making it with my friend!" ~ Sydney www.officialKidsmag.com • NoVember 2021 • 29
