Luckily, Lauren's children's hospital did not see mass amounts of COVID-19 cases, and to assist with staffing shortages throughout the organization, she accepted a reassignment to the IVF clinic. During her last week of reassignment, she applied for a full-time position in the IVF clinic and remains there today. SYDNEY BILLIMACK '17 Emergency Department RN, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Sydney never expected anything like the COVID-19 pandemic to occur, especially during her clinical experiences and at the start of her nursing career. As a student, she had a lot of fear surrounding her future; however, what started out as fear has transitioned into pride for her profession and her coworkers, and she can't wait to grow further within the field. ELLIE ROUSE '17 Medical Psychiatry Department RN, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics The greatest change for Ellie has been reevaluating her goals. She hopes to work with colleagues to make nurses feel more valued, to provide better rights and protection, and to help people care about nurses as much as they do their patients. Though the pandemic has created a lot of negative effects, Ellie thinks it has also allowed people to see areas that need improvement and has shown a path toward positive change. CLAIRE KIPLE '18 Senior Nursing Student When the pandemic hit, the College of Nursing provided students with N95 masks and face shields, and nearly all students were vaccinated by March 2021. Claire is confident in the skills she has learned and is eager to get back to a more hands-on environment. She is excited for her nursing career and believes being in school during a pandemic will prepare her for future challenges. Thank You, DELTA GAMMA NURSES!
