The Center for Rural Leadership (Project CENTRL) equips and em- powers leaders to meet the needs of rural Arizona. Promoting healthy, vi- brant and sustainable rural commu- nities, Project CENTRL has trained over 600 Arizona leaders since 1983. Project CENTRL's impact on rural Arizona is signifi cant and substan- tial as participants hold many lead- ership positions around the State. Sixteen participants were com- petitively selected for Class 30, which held its fi rst seminar June 3rd, 4th, and 5th 2021 at the Wild Horse Pass Resort in Chandler, Ari- zona. Project CENTRL Class 30 will be meeting over the next 12 months participating in nine seminars in- cluding The Fundamentals of Lead- ership, Effective Communication, Emerging Trends in Rural Arizona, Public Policy in Arizona, taking an International Trip to Mexico and a National Trip to Washington, D.C. and more. The program culminates with a team project and presenta- tion entitled "Make a Difference" where class graduates address how they would help resolve and solve some of Arizona's key issues and challenges. The Chandler seminar for Class 30 provided important opportu- nities for identifying a mentor for new class members, as the venue alo served as the fi nal seminar and graduation ceremony for the outgo- ing Project CENTRL Classes 28 and 29 (now fondly referred to as Class 57 due to COVID.) Board members and Project CENTRL alumni from across the State (livestreamed) celebrated the completion and ac- complishments of the two graduat- ing classes while welcoming the in- coming Class 30 at the Celebration Event at Wild Horse Pass Resort. Project CENTRL is a partnership between the non-profi t Center for Rural Leadership and Arizona Co- operative Extension in the UA Col- lege of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). Kar- en's Cafe has generously offered to conduct this class and I am very ap- preciative of them for their efforts to help out our youth. We are looking for applicants ages 15-20 that want to get their restaurant food handler permits. There is no cost to the stu- dents. The cost of the food handler permits will be paid for by the Larry Lord Foundation." Contact Larry Lord for details at 909-725-2801. There will be a Prix Fixe Job Skills Training Meatloaf Dinner held at Karen's Café 5:00 pm Saturday, Oc- tober 9th. The meal includes Salad, Drink, Dinner Roll and Dessert for $12.50. Dinner service is limited, so reservations are required. Please contact Karen's Cafe to make your reservations for the training din- ner. Phone (928) 927-3073. Lord added, "This is your chance to earn while learning about food prep, food service and restaurant management. This inaugural class is limited to 6 students." Larry Lord Mission Statement states, "Our goal is to help people with limited opportunities, get training for skilled jobs that actual- ly exist and to help them fi nd work. Our focus is to mentor ambitious teenagers and young adults into the industrial trades. Our country needs skilled workers and there is a huge shortage of them. Vocational classes have been eliminated from our schools and trade schools are expensive. Classes are being planned in Car- pentry, Food Handling, Plumbing, Electrical, Fabrication, Account- ing, HVAC, Welding, ATV Repair, Electronics and many more trades. Classes will include basic instruc- tion taught not by teachers, but by successful business owners. The program includes continuing men- torship and potential scholarships as the students progress. We teach our students basic skills while preparing them to join the workforce without debt." Lord explained, "It's pretty sim- ple! We are preparing you for your future. Like it or not, your success will depend on your attitude and appearances just as much as it will your skills. We have limited space and funds so we cannot waste either of them on an ambivalent student. We take your future seriously and require that you do the same. We've got your back, but only while you're moving forward!" Funding provided by the Larry Lord Foundation www.facebook. com/LarryLordFoundation Job skills training program offered
