Well over 90% of grameen's clients have been women. in 2006, the bank and its founder were jointly awarded the nobel Peace Prize for their work. But the practice has also received strong criticism from those who think there are better ways of alleviating poverty than through indebted - ness. What are these microfinance practices and how are they structured? Who provides the funds? Most important, does microfi- nance work? in this single session class, Ken allen, former Chief financial officer of texas industries, inc., will survey the world of mi- crofinance, highlighting several organizations and their practices.
