We can use their notes to recreate the landscape they saw and compare them to familiar places such as the springs of the ouachitas and a certain small rock ledge canoe landing on the arkansas. that brings us to the question of the landscape we restore today -- how it relates to prehistoric condi - tions and the way in which our activities have permanently changed ecological forces at work. Witness how tree and tree-ring stud- ies help reconstruct those early forests while highlighting the remaining questions about how our native oak-dominated forests main- tained themselves without active forestry management. instruCtor: fred Paillet dAY/dAte: thursday, 12/2/21 - (1) tiMe: 10:00 aM - 12:00 PM ForMAt: in-Person LoCAtion: Drake Cost: $25.00 olli Member $40.00 non-olli Member tHe deAd HAve tALes to teLL desCriPtion: Jerry rose, a professor emer- itus of anthropology from the university of arkansas, demonstrates with illustrations how the dead tell their stories to forensic science investigators. he begins with the fortuitous events that initiated his 35 year career as a fo- rensic scientist and proceeds with actual cases that illustrate how forensic scientists coax the dead to give up the secrets of their stories: dead girls in the swamp, body parts floating in a Coleman cooler, delivery of the wrong cremation, house fire victim, the wrong body buried, and forgotten at the hospital, among others. instruCtor: Dr. Jerry rose dAY/dAte: thursday, 12/2/21 - (1) tiMe: 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM ForMAt: in-Person LoCAtion: Drake Cost: $25.00 olli Member $40.00 non-olli Member Writing A 'LegACY Letter' desCriPtion: this online workshop is designed to introduce the concept of "legacy letters" and to encourage participants to craft their own legacy document. a legacy let- ter (also called an "ethical will") is a written document that allows people to share their life lessons, express their values and transmit their blessings to future generations. a legacy letter is shorter than a memoir, typically just a few pages. Jay sherwin, creator of life reflections Project, will discuss and offer brief writing exercises to help participants examine their life histories, explore their values and capture important in- sights. he offers advice, encouragement and a model structure to help participants draft and complete their own legacy letter. instruCtor: Jay sherwin dAY/dAte: friday, 12/3/21 - (1) tiMe: 9:00 aM - 11:00 aM ForMAt: virtual LoCAtion: Zoom Cost: $25.00 olli Member $40.00 non-olli Member tHe PrYor Center - Mission, HistorY, Future desCriPtion: the David and Barbara Pry- or Center for arkansas oral and visual history documents and preserves the stories told by those who have experienced and influenced arkansas history firsthand. But what went into the planning? John Mclarty, the Project Manager for the razorback regional greenway, will of- fer a summary of the history, challenges, and results of the project, covering early plans devised in 2002 for a regional trail system in- volving historic routes in northwest arkansas to the eventual completion of what we have today. from funding, to roW acquisition, to myriad regulatory hurdles, the challenges were daunting. thanks to a regional commit- ment from multiple cities and both public sec- tor and private sector support, the project was completed and officially dedicated on May 2, 2015. since then, the cities have exceeded ex- pectations to add spurs and loops connecting to the greenway. the regional trail system is used both for recreation and as an alternative to automotive commuting. Don't miss out on this class as Mr. Mclarty will feature a web link that will allow users to see the latest additions to the trail system. instruCtor: John Mclarty dAY/dAte: Wednesday, 12/8/21 - (1) tiMe: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM ForMAt: in-Person LoCAtion: Mt. seq Cost: $25.00 olli Member $40.00 non-olli Member sin CitY in tHe BiBLe BeLt desCriPtion: Join this class and be intro- duced to the "golden Decade" of hot springs, arkansas in the 1930's to 1960's. learn the riv- eting revelation of past history and the town's evolution to today's quiet, forgotten capital ForMAt KeY | = in-Person only | = virtual only | = Choice of in-Person or virtual
