AUGUST 2010 – It's A Good Life enior Center Cinemaer Cinema "Young V Senior C "Young Victoria"oria" August 6, 2010 Join the Neal Senior Center (100 TR Harris Drive, Shelby) for the premiere of “Young Victoria” which dramatizes the turbulent first years of Queen Victoria’s rule, and her enduring romance with Prince Albert on Friday, August 6, 2010. Wear a crown or tiara to the Senior Center on August 6 and receive a free movie ticket, otherwise tickets for the movie, which begins at 1:30 pm, are $1. Howdy Partner – Care To Dance? The Neal Senior Center, located at 100 TR Harris Drive, Shelby, NC, will host a Western Round-up Dance on August 26, 2010 from 7-10 pm. Too Darn Hot Has the hot weather changed your walking routine? Need a good cool place to walk? Try the Neal Senior Center’s indoor walking track during the hot summer months. Bake Shop Bake Shop The Neal Center Bake Shop, an extension of The Neal Senior Center’s Gift Shop (CobWebs ‘n Confetti) pro- vides the public with an opportunity to access a wide variety of homemade cakes and pies as well as homemade stickies through the Neal Senior Center. Some of the cakes available for purchase are: pound cake, 5-Flavor Pound Cake, Rotten Coconut Cake, Fresh Apple Cake and Carrot Layer Cake. Pies to choose from are: Peanut Butter Pie, Pumpkin, Chocolate and Pineapple Coconut to name a few. Call 704-482-3488 for a price list and to place orders. Instead, two covered dish meals will be scheduled each month with the exception of November and December, when everyone is so busy with the holidays. The Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center, located at 100 TR Harris Drive, Shelby, NC, will hold covered dish luncheons on Friday, August 13 and Friday, August 27, 2010 from 11:30-1:00 pm in the Performing Arts Room of the Center. Everyone is invited to attend. Please bring your favorite dish and join in all the fun. If you are not a cook, feel free to contribute by bringing something purchased at the grocery store or local restaurant. To reserve a seat and attend the luncheon, please contact the Senior Center (704-482-3488) at least one week prior to the luncheon(s) you plan to attend. Please note: The Kitchen Table (dining room) is now CLOSED on Fridays. Covered Dish Luncheon Rules: Everyone must bring something to share unless you are a first time visitor. No takeouts will be allowed. If the answer is yes, then the Council on Aging Telephone Reassurance Program might be for you. This program is especially beneficial for seniors age 60 and above that need for someone to make contact with them. The service can be setup to meet the needs of the senior. On these days a volunteer will call to make sure that you are up and okay. If the volunteer does not get an answer they will notify a contact person that will check on you.
