With your child, look
through the newspaper to
find pictures of things
that begin with the same
sound as the letter
E in Eskimo.
Point to the number
7 in the newspaper.
Have your child say the
number and, if it's large
enough, have your child
trace the number.
Get three baskets. Tell
your child they are the
"Sports Basket," the
"People Basket," and the
the "Toy Basket." Find
pictures in the newspaper
for each of the three
baskets. Make up new
basket themes and search
for pictures as well.
On one page of the
newspaper, search for an
uppercase letter E and a
lowercase letter e. Draw
a line to connect the two.
Can you find more pairs
of uppercase and
lowercase Es?
Find some objects in your
house and wrap them in
newspaper. Ask your child
to figure out what is inside
by feeling the package.
Ask what clues led to the
guess of what's inside.

Cut out lots of letter Es,
both uppercase and
lowercase. Have your
child glue them to a blank
piece of paper. Then find
pictures of words that start
with the letter E, like
elbows, elephants, and
earphones. Glue these
onto the piece of paper.

Count the pictures on
another page of the
newspaper. Write the
numbers on a sheet of
paper as an addition
problem. Count how many
pictures in all.
