Wellman's lynch-mob drama. "Viva Zapata!" (1951) Marlon Brando has the title role as the title Mexican revolutionary, but Quinn is a standout as Emiliano Zapata's brother and ally Eufemio. "La Strada" (1954) Quinn is brutal but compelling in director and co-writer Federico Fellini's classic of a traveling strongman who mistreats a young woman (Giulietta Masina) whose guardianship he acquires. "Lust for Life" (1956) Though Kirk Douglas has the showier role as Vincent Van Gogh, Quinn won an Oscar for his portrayal of fellow painter Paul Gauguin. "Requiem for a Heavyweight" (1962) In the first half of a Quinn double bill that Turner Classic Movies is presenting Saturday, July 17, Quinn is bruising in more ways than one as a boxer headed for a forced retirement ... though his manager (Jackie Gleason) may want him to take one more pounding first. The searing script by Rod Serling allows for appearances by boxing titans Jack Dempsey and the then-Cassius Clay (later Muhammad Ali). "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962) While it can't be said that director David Lean's esteemed Oscar winner is Quinn's film, the actor certainly plays a major role in it as an Arabian leader influenced by T.E.
