OMICRON UPDATE 3 Q: Were you affiliated with another Greek organization before Kappa Alpha Order? A: Yes, the Indiana State Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon gave me an honorary initiation. It was the first chapter I was a house director for. Q: Where are you originally from? A: Nashville, Indiana. Q: How did you become interested in being a house director? A: My son graduated from high school in 2016 and began school at Indiana University in August of 2016. My youngest daughter was a senior in high school and had plans to attend Indiana University as well. She and I moved to Bloomington where she commuted to Nashville for her senior year. I was looking for something to do, and I came across an ad on Craigslist for a maintenance and cleaning job at a fraternity house. I started working there and stayed until the house was unfortunately closed. That is when I realized I could be a house director. My first house director role was with Sigma Alpha Epsilon; I was hired to work for their Indiana Sigma Chapter at Indiana State. My next position was at the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity at Indiana University. Q: Why did you decide to come work for Omicron Chapter? A: I applied for a job after seeing a house director ad through Indeed. I did not know what fraternity it was or where it was at. I liked the job description, so I applied. After a series of phone interviews, and eventually meeting Folsom Bell '61, he asked if I would like to visit the house. I did, and after my visit I knew this was the right fit for me. Q: What are your favorite duties in this role? A: Building relationships with the men of this chapter. I have made lifelong friends at the other fraternity houses I have worked at. Now, I have made some friends here who, no matter where my life takes me, will always be remembered. Q: How has your role working with the men of Omicron Chapter made an impact during the pandemic and continued renovation projects? A: The men of Omicron Chapter have trusted me during the pandemic by letting me guide them through difficult decisions regarding safety and following the guidelines of the housing corporation, the University of Texas, the city of Austin, the state of Texas, and the CDC. The repairs and renovations were already underway when I started here on July 18, 2020. The men were very understanding. They are excited about the repairs and looked forward to them being completed. They are very proud of their house and appreciate the interest that is put into the Manor to preserve and maintain it. Q: What else do you think alumni would like to know about you or about your role with the chapter? A: I want them to know that I will always go above and beyond what my role as house director is. All of the men of this chapter have my phone number and they can contact me anytime for anything. I am here to keep the Manor in order and make this experience the best it can be for these young men. I have children their age who are very successful academically, and they both were in Greek life at Indiana University. I do very well relating to and communicating with this age group.
