CityViewNC.com | 33 J ust another brick in the wall? No, at least some of these are more like works of art. And you might never know they were there. Over the last couple of decades, cast members from most of Cape Fear Regional eatre's productions have selected a single brick in one of the off-stage dressing rooms. And they've made it their own. ey've signed their names, doodled, sketched and painted, and some have gone to impressive, colorful lengths to leave behind a memory. "It's kind of a theater tradition," said Ashley Owen, CFRT's marketing director. "You could stand in here for hours and really look at them." ere are elaborate depictions of the iconic "Miss Saigon" helicopter and a whimsical Tevye from "Fiddler on the Roof." "e Little Mermaid's" tail flips off into the sea and the armored cast from Monty Python's "Spamalot" peeks over a castle wall. e signature of founding artistic director Bo orp is "all over the place," Owens said. Ben Miller, who played a slew of suspects in the theater's most recent production, "Murder for Two" added a caricature of himself and co-star Trace Poole despite the fact that their performances took place off-site due to ongoing renovations at CFRT. BY KIM HAST Y | PHOTOGRAPHY BY CINDY BURNHAM The tradition continues at CFRT for 2021-2022 FEATURE Cape Fear Regional Theatre's 2021-2022 Lineup "Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story" features classic songs like "Peggy Sue," and "That'll Be the Day," along with "La Bamba." Directed by Suzanne Agins (CFRT's Dreamgirls, Memphis, Mamma Mia!) "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," will be directed by CFRT Education Director Marc de la Concha Tiffany Green, who directed CFRT's production of "Shrek: The Musical" will bring the magic of "The Wizard of Oz" to the stage. "Welcome to Arroyo's" follows Alejandro Arroyo, owner of the newest (and cleanest) lounge in New York City's Lower East Side. His sister, Molly, has a nasty habit of writing graffiti on the back wall of the local police precinct. Officer Derek is a recent NYC transplant with something to prove. Lelly Santiago is a socially awkward college student who may have discovered that the Arroyo siblings' late mother was one of the founders of hip-hop music. The production will be performed with seating on the CFRT stage. Based on the popular whodunit board game, "Clue: On Stage" will be directed by (CFRT artistic director Mary Kate Burke. "The Color Purple" will be produced with support from The Junior League of Fayetteville and the National Endowment for the Arts. Brian Harlan Brooks of Broadway's "Motown," will direct.
