As soon as the Saslav family arrives at a new
assignment, Jill's first order of business starts with
the bedrooms of 12-year-old daughter Delaney and
10-year-old son Ian. Ian's room features mementos
from the family's previous home in Hawaii. The
blueberries from Jill's home state of Maine are the
inspiration for her daughter's room, including the
children's book "Blueberries for Sal," by Maine author
Robert McCloskey. She hand-painted the cheerful yellow
gingham checks onto the walls. Tucked behind the bedroom
door is a nifty dollhouse Andrew Saslav made for his daughter's
collection..
The Saslavs met as
undergraduates at George
Washington University
in Washington, D.C. "Our
living room always has an
Americana theme,"
Jill Saslav said. "George
is our inspiration."
"They never complain
when we move. You
always hear that
military kids are
resilient, and I think
that's true."
