O ur chapter membership is thriving with 36 brothers initiated in 2021. e chapter is exceeding all expectations during a pandemic: hosting recruitment virtually, finding alternative ways to hold philanthropy events, and adhering to strict COVID-19 guidelines! Alpha Lambda continues to produce leaders on campus and in the community, while staying focused on academics in a world of mostly virtual classes. However, the strength of our chapter is a stark contrast to the facility which they call home. e 57-year-old chapter house has outlived its useful life; major systems are failing, safety standards can't be met, and repair and maintenance costs continue to escalate (more than $250,000 over the last seven years alone). is is not sustainable, and critical decisions regarding our campus home must be made in 2022. For this reason, we launched the Building for Our Second Century campaign to raise the funds needed to cultivate a safe and secure housing environment for our chapter. ank you to the 110 alumni and friends who have stepped up to commit $1,085,513 toward our goal of $2 million. With more than 1,000 living alumni who have yet to make a pledge, we know we can achieve this goal together. In 2021, we need you to invest in the future and continued success of our chapter. Your pledge, which can be made over five years, is an investment in the future of our chapter and critical for us to provide a safe home for the next generations of brothers. Already made your pledge? Please encourage brothers you know who are missing from the donor list to make their commitment. Together we are helping ensure Lambda Chi Alpha continues to be a guiding force for men at OSU. Make the most of 2021—please make your pledge today! What Lambda Chi Alpha Means to Chell '92-1357 and Coe Williams '21-2085 F or Chell Williams '92-1357, having legacy members in the family has never been a priority, believing people need to pursue the paths and goals that are best for them. "First and foremost, I want a path for my children that supports their fullest potential." As fate would have it, Chell's son, Coe '21-2085, chose Oregon State as an aspiring business major and decided to join Lambda Chi Alpha, his father's fraternity, because of the people he met. "When going to Beaver games we would stop by the house and talk to some of the guys, and I just knew they were my type of people." Coe could see that the brothers made the effort to get to know him, and he was proud to join a fraternity based on mutual respect and to follow in his father's footsteps. Chell takes great pride and satisfaction in sharing the brotherhood with his son and agrees that Lambda Chi is the most rewarding choice for him. "e concepts of accepting our errors in life, being willing to ask for forgiveness, giving forgiveness, and the understanding that some relationships define upfront that forgiveness is guaranteed, are super powerful lessons in life. I am grateful that my son gets to experience that message in brotherhood."
