By Karen Rice Official Kids Mag Calling all green kids! We've got a fun summer project for you! It's a great way to help clean up your neighborhood this summer and use your awesome creativity too! It's this year's "Tossed" sculpture contest… where you get to make ART out of what people have TOSSED! AND, you'll get to display your amazing sculpture at this year's Benton County Fair (September 28-October 2, 2021) and be eligible to receive ribbons and special awards! This is the fourth year for the competition that brings awareness to litter and its impact on the environment through art. Start now by collecting trash: styrofoam cups, plastic bottles, straws, candy wrappers, chip bags, metal or aluminum cans, cardboard, bottle caps, plastic bags, glass bottles of all different shapes and sizes. Then use your imagination—along with a little glue, wire, nails, screws and paint—to create an amazing one-of-a-kind sculpture. Just look at the pictures of last year's winning entries on this page and you'll see the amazing transformation from trash…to treasure! All kids from ages 5-19 can enter the contest, and your adults can enter too! (That means your mom, dad, teacher or leader, etc. can enter!) You can create a sculpture on your own, or do it as a group with your friends. You can even make one with your adult! (That means your mom, grandma or grandpa, etc. can help.) During the week of the fair, your sculpture will be displayed so everyone can see your creation. Sculptures will receive ribbons and be eligible for special awards. You can start right now by picking up litter around your neighborhood, in the park, or even collecting recyclables at home. Start imagining ways to transform the trash into works of art. We can't wait to see the fun and inventive sculptures Green Kids will create! TOSSED is sponsored by the Farm Bureau Women's Leadership Committee. You must register by September 20. There is no entry fee. For more information and to register, contact simpsongals@centurytel.net. See the rules and instructions below. We can't wait to see your sculptures at the fair! An earth-friendly art contest for everyone! TOSSED: 1. Sculptures may be built and entered in two different categories: group or individual. If you create a group entry, you may also enter another sculpture in the individual division. 2. Sculptures must be assembled using littered materials that have been picked up in the community and/or gathered items from a recycle bin. Please clean the items before building the sculpture. 3. Natural materials like sticks, leaves, or rocks cannot be used. Using a variety of different types of materials in your project is part of the criteria for judging.
