n July 4, 1776, people living in
the American Colonies declared
their independence. They wanted to be
independent, or free, from the rules of
King George III of England. They
wanted to form their own country.
They wrote a document to send
to King George. It was called the
Declaration of Independence, written
on July 4, 1776. This famous document
says that all people are created equal
and with certain rights.
