But flying through the air to infinity and beyond with only a jet pack is just movie magic—right? Would you like to take a flight with a jet-suit? Why or why not? What would happen if you dropped into a lake? What happens if you get an itchy nose during a flight? he first flight was in November 2016. In 2019, Browning captured the Guinness World Record for fastest, body-controlled flight. He reached a speed of 85mph climbing to 12,000 ft during a test flight! Can people fly without an airplane? Science fact or science fiction? T T Actually, it's more than movie magic. Jet pack technology is real and is being tested around the world right now. Richard Browning has invented a jet suit that allows people to fly. He is a test pilot and founder of Gravity Industries in the United Kingdom. Lots of companies and organizations want them. The British Royal Marines have practiced launching from a small boat, flying across the water and landing on another boat. This is faster and safer than going by helicopter. Paramedics in Britain's North Air Ambulance Service have tested the suits. With them, the medics could make life-saving trips to rescue and help people in remote areas that are hard to reach by other means. Browning has flown thousands of times in his jet suit. There were failures as it was devolped, but he learned from each mistake. And now he's flying high! Gravity Industries' jet suit has five mini-jet gas-powered engines. They are each 1,050 horse-power. Two are attached to each arm and one is on the backpack. Blast Off! When the steam engine began to do the work of horses during the early 1800s, people wanted to know how many horses an engine would replace. The unit of measurement that is about equal to the power of one horse was invented. It was called horse-power. Gravity Industries' jet suits have the power of about 5,250 horses! What is horse-power?
