KANSAS SIG page 5 ALPHA XI ACCOLADES Two Alpha Xi alumni were recently recognized by the general fraternity. Rich Reda '93 was named a Significant Sig. As one of the fraternity's highest honors, the Significant Sig Award recognizes those alumni whose exemplary achievements in their fields of professional endeavor have brought great honor and prestige to the name of Sigma Chi. Rich is president of Benefit Communication Insourcing at Lockton Companies, which is the world's largest privately held insurance brokerage firm. Brother Reda also serves on Alpha Xi's Advisory Board. Larry Winter '77 is our newest Constantine Sig. The Order of Constantine recognizes alumni for their commitment, dedication, and service to the fraternity. Brother Winter has served on the House Corporation and as chapter advisor since 2010. To date, Alpha Xi has produced 39 Significant Sigs and 11 Order of Constantine Sigs. Alpha Xi Archives Discovered W e were recently contacted by the widow of John F. "Jack" Heimovics '60, who in going through his things found a treasure trove of archives for the chapter. Jack had served as chapter editor and was an engineering scholar and member of several honorary academic societies, including Tau Beta Pi. He did a remarkable job of preserving these archives. The grand prize is the original manuscript The Founding of Alpha Xi, written by charter member Robert L. McAlpine 1887. The document is handwritten and entirely in verse. Through 49 stanzas, it describes the circumstances of our founding and details the challenge of warding off a rival group whose motives were less than noble. The manuscript has been transcribed, and if anyone would like a copy, please email Chapter Advisor Larry Winter '77 at kuedgar@yahoo.com. Other documents she found include chapter newsletters from the 1920s, documents from the chapter house dedication in 1930, and documents from Alpha Xi's 50th anniversary celebration in 1934. Old photographs, event programs, and correspondence provide details on our beautiful chapter house and alumni who were instrumental in supporting and guiding Alpha Xi Chapter in the early years. If you have any old newsletters, photographs, or mementos to share, we will gladly add them to our archives. We can accept copies if you'd like to hang on to the originals. Please contact Larry Winter to coordinate your submissions. Greg Kallos '53 is retired and lives in Kansas City, Mo.
