P inewoods Educational Foundation has been hit hard by the pandemic and the chapter's suspension by RPI. The combination will reduce occupancy in the Pomeroy Chapter House to under 20 men for the 2021-22 academic year. This is well below our breakeven point of 30-35 men. Cash flow problems will persist for several years as the chapter rebuilds its membership. When we apply to refinance our mortgage in 2023, a negative income statement may be our biggest obstacle. Instead of waiting for the chapter membership to recover, we have taken the unusual step of advertising room rentals to non-Sigma Chi students at RPI. The chapter has devised ways to share the house while retaining privacy for chapter meetings and other activities. Although we launched this effort quite late in the semester, we already secured our first independent renter for the 2021-22 academic year. We will continue to search for more, and we hope to find success with students returning from summer and fall semester internships. Every renter we find will defray up to $8,000 in expenses. With any luck, the chapter might meet a few worthy men along the way.
