here are many reasons to be hopeful about what's on
the horizon as we've turned a corner in the pandemic.
While it's no secret that colleges and universities have
undoubtedly been among the institutions hardest hit by
the pandemic, things are improving and slowly getting
back to "normal" at K-State. At the time of writing this,
no members in the house currently have COVID-19, and
with vaccinations becoming available for students, we are
hopeful this will keep cases down during the fall semester
and into the future.
The House Corporation has remained dedicated to Kappa
Alpha's upkeep despite the challenges presented by the
pandemic. With that said, the focus has shifted from
purchasing new beds to improving the driveway. As much
as we'd like to be ordering new bunk beds and mattresses
for our live-in members, we're having to table that project
until at least next year because of a crumbling driveway
on the north side. It has not been maintained by the owner
of the apartment complex above us and has also been
overgrown with weeds, bushes, and trees. It's been eroding
onto our driveway through the years, which has contributed
to its crumbling at an alarming rate.
We're working with our neighbor to improve the slope with
a retaining wall and erosion control above it. Thankfully,
he has agreed to share the expense of the wall and erosion
control, the majority of which is on his side of the property
line. We'll also be replacing the north driveway with a
thicker concrete bed to accommodate the trash trucks, etc.,
that also use that drive. The dumpsters will also be relocated
toward the back parking lot from the north end of the house
to make it safer and easier for our members to use.
Additionally, the House Corporation is in the planning
stages of enhancing the landscape with the help of a
team of landscape architects and engineers. This project
is expected to be completed by August 1, and we look
forward to welcoming the actives back this fall to a home
away from home with even more curb appeal!
As always, we aim to be open, honest, and responsible
stewards of alumnae donations that make these necessary
Chapter House updates possible and ensure Kappa Alpha's
strong and bright future at K-State. The actives are grateful for
your ongoing commitment to Chi Omega, and these are women
who you can be proud to have following in your footsteps.
We can't wait to reunite at the Chapter House sooner rather
than later and show off all these updates. Until then, we are
wishing health and wellness for you and all your loved ones.
Lovingly Yours in Chi Omega,
