Lambda Owl Foundation 4000 W. 6th St., Ste. B #103 Lawrence, KS 66049 Lambda Log Chi Omega at the University of Kansas Chi Omega Creates Special Committee to Educate Members and Expand the Sisterhood's Social and Cultural Horizons I n 2020, the Chi Omega Governing Council announced the creation of a special committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). This committee was tasked with the following goal: Make recommendations to the Governing Council after a holistic review of policies, procedures, and practices to ensure an ever-evolving, more inclusive Chi Omega. The work and changes will remain ongoing, but initial recommendations were shared in January 2021. Some of these initiatives include: • Modeling DEI education on campus and among fraternal groups • Chi Omega specific tools and education for members • Increasing affordability and promoting lifetime value in membership • Increasing pathways to membership through recruitment Additional initiatives and details can be found online at chiomega.com/chi- omega-and-diversity-equity-inclusion. At Lambda Chapter, we have appointed Katherine Ewing '20 and Brooke West '20 to serve as our DEI chairwomen. Both women received education at Firesides Leadership Training 2021 and will be providing chapter-tailored DEI education to our undergraduate members. Additionally, Lambda supports Chi Omega's changes to remove barriers to the recruitment process to welcome new members from diverse backgrounds. The RIF has been renamed from the "Recruitment Information Form" to the "Recruitment Introduction From." This process does not change for alumnae but does allow PNMs to directly request a RIF through the Chi Omega website. KU Panhellenic will be making a final decision on the format of recruitment 2021 later this spring. We will email information when details are confirmed. In the meantime, if you have any recruitment questions, please do not hesitate to contact our recruitment advisor, Jacquie Kasner, Rho Alpha '08 at jacquelynkasner@gmail.com or (636) 575- 2812, or RIF advisor, Sarah Rasmussen Hegarty '85 at hegartyfamily4@gmail.com or (913) 593-7488. Your support of Chi Omega has helped us thrive over the years. We hope you join all of us at Lambda Chapter in keeping Chi Omega "ever at heart" today and moving forward. Lambda Chapter President Named a Nominee for Truman Scholarship L eah Stein '19 was one of four outstanding juniors at KU nominated for Harry S. Truman Scholarships, which provide up to $30,000 for graduate study. Awards are given to college juniors for leadership in public service and are highly competitive with only about 60 Truman Scholars named nationwide each year. Since 1981, 20 KU students have become Truman scholars. The most recent KU student received the honor in 2019. Leah is Lambda's Chapter president, a member of the University Honors Program, and was selected for the University Scholars Program last year, which seeks to identify top sophomores across campus. She was also selected for Mortar Board honor society last year and serves as the social chairwoman. During spring and summer 2020, Leah worked on two political campaigns in southwest Kansas, and she has been involved in the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics Student Advisory Board, where she has engaged in programs such as this fall's Gratitude Drive-Thru for veterans. She previously served as Lambda's vice president and foundation ambassador; she's a student ambassador for the university and interned with KU Alumni Association. She is majoring in sociology and minoring in social justice. Lambda Chapter Leadership Chapter President (G.H.) Leah Stein '19 kuchio.president@gmail.com Vice President (G.T.B.)
