She went into recruitment with an open mind but quickly realized that Sigma Kappa truly was the best sorority for her because of how the women of Xi Chapter lived with heart. "I learned a lot about how to be a leader at Xi Chapter, including how to lead by example and manage different personalities," Sarah said. After earning bachelor's degrees in economics and political science from KU and a law degree from Duke, Sarah is utilizing her Sigma Kappa leadership skills and living with heart deep in the heart of Texas. Sarah's work with Hudson Advisors led her to be recognized as the Dallas Women Lawyer Association's 2020 Outstanding Corporate Counsel Award recipient. "I feel so lucky to have such an interesting job where I get to work with and be challenged by really smart people every day," Sarah said. "I'm constantly learning something new, and it keeps me energized." Staying energized was never a problem for Sarah when she lived in the Sigma Kappa house. Sarah remembers one time when she and Stacey Hurst Morgan '97 took their lawn chairs down to the Chi O fountain and literally sat them down in the fountain to enjoy a relaxing day of reading and chatting. They even got their photo taken by the University Daily Kansan. She is also thankful for the Sigma Kappa memories she shares with her family. "I attended a couple of Sigma Kappa conferences with my mom, grandmother, and sister, Kate Beaver Hayes '07, which was a unique experience," Sarah said. "It was fun to see my mom and grandmother party it up with other sorority sisters." Sarah has enjoyed keeping up with her Xi Chapter sisters on social media and seeing them living with heart through their career accomplishments and building their families. She has been married to her husband for 15 years, and they're blessed to have two fantastic children, Harper and Calvin. Sarah has shared her number one passion of traveling with her family and can't wait to make more trips as the pandemic subsides. "I love showing my kids the world and different cultures," Sarah said. "It's been a little bit harder during the pandemic, but we can't wait for a little bit more normalcy so that we can start seeing the world again." You can connect with Sarah at sebyork@gmail.com. Living with Heart Deep in the Heart of Texas Sarah Beaver York '98 Honored by Dallas Women Lawyer's Association T he members of Sigma Kappa have been thrilled to be in Lawrence for what has been a very exciting spring semester. After Xi Chapter earned a 3.43 GPA for the fall 2020 semester, the Executive Council set several goals during the winter so we could be even more successful this spring. We enjoyed sharing our vision for Xi Chapter at a joint meeting with the Xi Corporation Board and Advisory Board. Xi Chapter's future is also looking brighter after we participated in Continuous Open Recruitment this semester. We were excited to welcome 15 new members and they are already making an impact on our chapter. They have participated in our new member ceremony and begun our new member education process and the promise program. Another highlight of the spring semester has been our involvement on campus. We were honored to be chosen to participate in Rock Chalk Revue for the third year in a row! While it will look differently this year, we are so excited to participate in this KU philanthropy event. Our show, Happily Ever After, will be pre-recorded and then shown to the Lawrence ccommunity on May 1st. As always, I would like to give a very special thank-you to our advisory and corporation boards for all that they do.
