Lion's Share ALPHA OMICRON CHAPTER OF ALPHA DELTA PI AT OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY SPRING 2021 The T he Alpha Omicron House Corporation Board held its annual meeting on Saturday, March 27, 2021, and for the first time included the option for alumnae to attend the meeting via Zoom. The opening remarks, welcome, and introduction of current board members were all presented by House Corporation Board President, Teresa Smith '80. During her report, Teresa shared with the attendees an update on our housing construction project. Despite weather delays and permitting issues encountered this semester, it is anticipated that the new chapter house will be completed mid- June 2021 with potential for completion as early as the end of May. In addition, Teresa shared that the collegiate women are expected to move into our new home at the beginning of August and will be able to participate in fall recruitment from their new home. Chapter President Mackenzie Gallagher '18 shared that OSU Panhellenic has not yet provided them any information about fall recruitment procedures, but the women are hopeful that they can share their new home with all the prospective new members this fall. Arlene Manthey '75 and Whitney Turner '97 joined the meeting virtually to share an update on the fundraising for the AO Educational Housing Fund. Arlene announced that to date, a total of more than $2,000,000 in gifts and commitments has been raised for the project–– all coming from only 564 donors! In addition, Whitney shared that there are still several naming opportunities available. "Anyone who has not yet made a gift or pledge still has the opportunity to be part of this lasting legacy," Whitney said. Whitney went on to recognize Connie Cather Green '77 for a generous additional matching gift to enhance the final stages of the fundraising. Connie hopes that her gift will inspire others to fund a named opportunity or significant gift to the house. While the construction will soon be completed, both Whitney and Arlene stressed that additional funds are still needed to help pay down debt and ensure fiscal responsibility, providing a healthy position for future maintenance and ensuring that our collegiate members are not burdened by excessive house bills. Other items of note from the annual meeting are the introduction of the newly hired House Director, the presentation of the AO 90th Scholarship Award recipients, the Chapter President's report, and the Alpha Omicron 100th Anniversary report. Additional information on each of these items can be found in this newsletter. The final item of business was the election of members to fill three expiring positions on the Board. All three positions will be retained by current members Paula Kendrick '72 (Secretary), Teresa Smith '80 (President), and Nancy Sitler '76 (Treasurer) until her transition to House Director. Exciting Chapter House Construction Updates Included New House Director Hired D uring the annual House Corporation Board meeting in March, Board President Teresa Smith '80 announced the hiring of Nancy Sitler '76 as the new House Director. Nancy brings a wealth of experience to this position and will become the first House Director in the new chapter house when it welcomes our collegiate members in the fall of 2021. "While I am ready to retire from my job with Sapulpa Public Schools after 29 years as the Child Nutrition Director, I knew I needed to have a post-retirement plan," Nancy said. "The opportunity to become the House Director for our beautiful new facility was tailor-made for my skill set. I currently handle food service, hiring, and kitchen maintenance for the school district—all tasks which fall upon a House Director to handle." Nancy currently serves Alpha Omicron as Treasurer of the House Corporation Board and will resign that position prior to starting her new role as House Director. As a result, the board is seeking a new Treasurer. TREASURER NEEDED! The AO House Corporation Board is actively seeking an Assistant Treasurer/Treasurer. This individual will begin immediately as Assistant Treasurer and will work with the current Treasurer to learn the duties and responsibilities of this role. This volunteer will fulfill the remainder of the current three-year term. The new Treasurer should have an accounting or finance-related background and be able to devote approximately two hours per week to ADPi business. This individual does not need to live in the Stillwater area since most meetings are currently held virtually. In addition to Stillwater and the surrounding area, anyone living in the Dallas, Houston, or Kansas City areas would also be able to serve in this role. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Board President Teresa Smith '80 at smith0307@wans.net. HOUSE CORPORATION HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING WITH VIRTUAL ATTENDANCE House Corporation Board members, collegiate officers and advisors attend a post-meeting house tour.
