Box 2367 Auburn, AL 36831-2367 Address Service Requested THE AUBURN SIG Chapter Eternal Richard Lee Wright '52 entered Chapter Eternal on November 30, 2020, at the age of 89. As a Navy ROTC student, Dick was commissioned as an ensign and served as an engineering officer aboard the destroyer, USS Loerg. He then attended pilot training, earning his wings in 1954, beginning his flying career as a fleet pilot and test pilot. In his 23- year Naval career, Dick made over 500 aircra carrier landings, piloted over 38 different types of aircra, was a runner-up in the Gemini astronaut selection, and was selected as a Fellow (second-highest level of recognition) by the Society of Experimental Test Pilots. Aer his retirement from the Navy, Dick held several test flying jobs, working with Cessna, Flight Systems, BAE Systems, and then with the Navy again until his second retirement in 1993. He loved airplanes and frequently marveled at the fact that he got paid to do something he was so passionate about. Jerry Oakes '57 entered Chapter Eternal on July 3, 2020, at age 86. Upon graduation he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and served two years with the 17th Engineering Battalion, Second Armored Division. In 1961, during the Berlin Crisis, he returned to duty with the 926th Construction Battalion, retiring in 1965. Jerry enjoyed a lengthy career in architecture, time with his family, and exploring his passion for genealogy. Organization and vision were traits that permeated anything Jerry undertook. Alumni News Herb H. Reed Jr. '58 remembers bringing sweetheart candidates to the chapter house, especially since one of them became the sweetheart in 1955 and later his wife in 1958. G. Porter Block Jr. '63 retired as a lawyer with Harrison Sale LLC in 2019. He lives in Mobile with his wife, Shirley. Email: pbrock2013@ yahoo.com Hall B.
