"By the smiles and hugs I get from clients. Not so many hugs in the last year, but lots of smiles and "thank you's," he says on his gauging of success. Possibly unlike some other fields of law, Elder Law can be rewarding work, and Todd experiences it regularly – giving people piece of mind. "Working with a clientele that has scrimped and saved their entire lives to have something to live off of and possibly pass on to their children and grandchildren. Having the honor to sit down with them and make sure that their estate goes where they want it to go when they pass away OR making sure they get the care they need when their health declines without losing everything is humbling." e BVBA has been helpful for Todd to get the message out to the community that his work is specialty work, saying, "e biggest hindrance to my business is letting people know that I am a specialist. …people still think that their "family attorney" can handle pretty much anything but this area of the law is so specific that you need someone who focuses on that. BVBA has helped get the word out that I do this very limited specialty and I appreciate that." Todd would definitely recommend other businesses joining the organization. "Bella Vista is a small town and people like to know what is out there, and BVBA does that," he notes. "I think people like to shop locally and that is good. I would recommend that businesses let the folks know they are there through this organization." Todd enjoys the variety of people in the Bella Vista. "You can meet a nice representation of the entire country right here in this small town. I love meeting with clients that have just moved here from other parts of the country," he points out. "I like to know what brought them here but I also like to know what they did and what their part of the country was like. You meet some very interesting people here." By Angie Clark Executive Director, Concordia of Bella Vista | SPONSORED CONTENT D o you ever ask yourself what your purpose in life is? What is the real reason you are here? What are your personal talents and gis? Some of us go through each day searching for our "why"—the purpose of our existence. Finding a sense of purpose varies from person-to-person, and it can change with your values over time. For example, what you valued in your working life could be much different from retirement. ough purpose may seem like it belongs in the realm of younger people, studies have shown that having a purpose throughout life is important and contributes to better physical health and wellbeing. A sense of purpose also grows from our connection to others, which is why a crisis of purpose is oen a symptom of isolation. Once you find your path, you will almost certainly find others traveling along with you, hoping to reach the same destination—a community. ere is nothing more meaningful than feeling what you do helps others. At Concordia we have created a community of seniors who have found their purpose and calling in life. Joyce is our "Master Gardner." She tirelessly volunteers her time to work in our various flower gardens throughout our beautiful 26 acre campus. During each resident meeting she puts together a display of flowers from the gardens and names each flower. Deborah is an artist who has used her talent to teach painting classes. If you don't know how to paint but would like to try, she offers the perfect opportunity to try something new. Deborah is so patient and has the gi of encouragement. Ruth has been a resident at Concordia for many years and believes in the benefits of exercise. She has faithfully led an exercise class every week. We have a variety of different exercise classes at Concordia, but her class is always full. Art has a love for Bocce Ball, and every week he recruits new players, and sets up teams. Art has helped many residents learn this game, and we have seen many new players enjoying this game each week. Marjorie is full of energy, loves to dance, and make others laugh. She has organized many of our parties and social hours and has coaxed me a time or two to line dance with her and others. e list of residents who selflessly give is endless. e good news is that seniors always have something to offer. If you are sitting at home feeling lonely and longing for a sense of community, transform the feeling by approaching each day with a sense of purpose, deciding to do something meaningful.
