The idea for On the Banks came to Doug during his daughter's recruitment experience in fall 2020. "She had a virtual recruitment and initiation," Doug said. "She met very few other sisters in her new member class and only visited the sorority house once. What really shook me was a comment she made after her initiation. She simply said, 'Dad, what is the point of all this?' That was a sobering moment to me. I thought, there is a point to all of this. There is purpose and it has importance. We just need to be creative in how we tell the story to Undergraduate Brothers and prospective members." On the Banks is a six-part series where we meet some interesting Brothers through interview and storytelling. Through their stories, these Brothers will help us reconnect with the values of our Fraternity: Friendship, Knowledge, Service, Morality, and Excellence. On the Banks pays homage to the chance meeting of John Templeton McCarty, Jefferson 1848, and Bolivar G. Krepp, Jefferson 1849, on the banks of the Sweetwater River on July 7, 1849. Two Brothers who had never met, connected 1,500 miles west of Canonsburg while heading to the Gold Rush in California. There was no GPS or cell phones, and still they found each other. On the Banks focuses on the power of the Phi Gam connection, meeting new Brothers for the first time, and embracing our shared values. You can listen and subscribe to the podcast on Simplecast. You can also watch the video version of the podcast on YouTube or visit phigam.org.
