Last year, our chapter created its fi rst Diversity & Inclusion
Committee, committed to proactive engagement and
inclusivity, as diverse as the city we represent. How are we
doing this? We are doing the internal work within our
chapter and our organization to make sure that it is an
inclusive environment for all, this includes selecting
speakers for our events that represent a variety of racial
backgrounds, sectors of the industry, and walks of life.
Also, the Diversity & Inclusion committee is developing
diversity-related content to share on our social media, and
collaborating with other WJA chapters on events that
address the realities women of color face in our industry,
and every day.
In addition to inclusivity, WJA New York Metro is revamp-
ing our mentorship initiatives, and reimagining how they
have been done. Every VP sitting on the board is sitting on
another committee, promoting peer-to-peer mentorship.
WJA NY Metro's Tuesday Tips series on social media
provides regular actionable tips about mentorship, and our
committees are developing programming to train mentors,
mentees, and promote mentorship as something that
occurs in all directions, not just top to bottom, since we
can all learn from each other.
In March, the Women's Jewelry Association is launching
the national "March is Me" campaign, encouraging women
to buy jewelry for themselves. Marketing assets provide
retailers, jewelry designers, manufacturers and suppliers an
opportunity to boost sales. If you are looking for fresh
assets for your store, we encourage you to join the cam-
paign.
On behalf of WJA New York Metro, we hope you will join
us for an upcoming virtual event, engage with our chapter
on social media (IG @wjanewyorkmetro), and consider
becoming a member of the Women's Jewelry Association.
Support the advancement of women in our industry, and
help us write the next chapter of the story. Learn more at
