2021 McDonald county Directory | 29 "When my husband was a kid growing up he worked in the meat department of a grocery store and also for Service Packing up in Joplin who do meat processing," said Rhonda Percival, who owns Goodman Meat Shop with her husband Donnie and her son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Caitlin Percival. "He has always loved cooking and the whole process so he kept his eye on the meat shop in Goodman and always imagined that if it ever went up for sale he would go for it." e opportunity came a couple of years ago and Matthew asked his dad, Donnie, to go in with him on the purchase. e Percival family took over the meat shop in May of 2019. "Matthew had always been an entrepreneur," Rhonda said about her son. "He had his own construction company for a while aer college." So, like many of the successful small businesses in McDonald County, Goodman Meat Shop and Processing is family owned and operated. "We pride ourselves with customer service and serving those in our community," Rhonda said. "We do custom butchering of beef, hogs, lambs, sheep and deer. We are a proud supporter of Share the Harvest. During deer season you can donate your deer to our local food bank and we will donate the processing". Rhonda was born and raised in Southwest Missouri. Donnie was born in Houston but moved to the area when he was 16. Rhonda and Donnie met in high school and have been together ever since. "Southwest Missouri is a beautiful place to live and a friendly community that is growing fast," Rhonda said. "It's a great place to raise your family because of the schools and community of supporters. Everyone knows each other and cares for their well-being. Living here you really learn good work ethics and morals." In addition to meat processing, they have a large retail meat selection in their facility including custom made brats and summer sausage. "Our hope going forward is to expand our retail business," Rhonda said. "To get the word out that we have this great selection of meat and processing services to offer."
