Dear 2010 Mary,
Nobody ever said home renovations
are easy or f un. There you are, cr y ing
li ke a baby, sitting on the f loor of a
k itchen that has been stripped to the
studs and doesn't have any running
water or heat. A nd we cou ld sure use
some heat as we endure one of our
coldest Decembers on record.
Believe it or not, this renovation w i l l
eventual ly be finished, and you w i l l
be able to enjoy your new, spacious
k itchen. So, dr y your eyes and carr y
on. This situation is only a problem if
you make it one.

Dear 2020 Mary,
By any conceivable metric, you are
now of ficial ly an "elderly" person.
Some people think that being in
this age group entit les them to of fer
their adv ice and "w isdom" li ke a Pez
dispenser spitting out candy.
For heaven's sake, don't be one of those
people. Hold your tong ue when it is
w ise to do so (which is probably most
of the time) and speak your mind
only when your words w i l l make a
dif ference. Too much speech di lutes
the significance of al l speech.
A nd whatever else you do, don't take
yourself too seriously.
