Kids! Here's a fun way to see how good deeds
and nice words really add up to something
beautiful!
Make a kindness wreath!
Here's how it works:
Every time a member of your family or
friend points out an act of kindness that
they notice, a ribbon is added to the
wreath. For example, kindness may be
when your brother shares his cookie
with you. Or when your adult makes
your lunch. Maybe someone notices
that you took out the garbage without
being reminded. It can be anytime
someone shares a caring word or deed,
or does something to bring a smile to
someone's face.
What you need:
• A wreath form. You can use a wreath that you already
have, or cut a ring from a piece of cardboard.
• Ribbon or fabric. Use scrap ribbons or pieces of fabric. You
can sit down with your family and cut pieces of ribbon or
fabric into 4-6 inch pieces, and talk about what kinds of
things you think are acts of kindness.
• A jar. Add your ribbon to a jar and keep it close
by to easily add ribbons when someone is caught being
kind!
Hang the wreath in a good spot that everyone can
easily reach. Over the next few weeks, as you notice
acts or words of kindness, your wreath will keep getting
fuller each day. It's fun to see everyone in the family
really taking notice of kind behavior from each other and
pointing it out.
Once your wreath is full you can move it to the front
door or a special place in your home. It will be proud
reminder of all the kind acts that made it so beautiful.
A circle of
kindness
