Warm Welcome to the 2020 Alumni Class of Mu of DKE W hether it's for the final football game of the season, the halftime show, or some funny commercials, millions of people worldwide traditionally tune in every year for the Super Bowl. As Patrick Mahomes was crowned the Super Bowl MVP for leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a comeback win over the San Francisco 49ers, one of our Mu of DKE brothers also had a behind-the- scenes, MVP-caliber performance in Super Bowl LIV. In the third quarter, Little Caesars' first-ever Super Bowl commercial aired thanks to Joe Maglio '01 and his team at McKinney. Joe is the CEO of McKinney, which has been a leader in the advertising industry for more than 50 years. McKinney is thriving with Joe at the helm, having hired 20% of the company this past year, primarily during the pandemic. "Having spent my career at advertising agencies big and small, something just felt different when I was meeting the team at McKinney. The culture is unlike any other company that I've been at," Joe said. "Employee experience is at the core of how we think. While we have many new employees, we also have people who have been at the company for a decade or more. This creates a unique mix of respecting what has made McKinney great while also bringing in fresh perspectives." The culture Joe found at McKinney closely aligns with what he experienced 20 years ago at Mu. Many of Joe's closest friends are his DKE brothers. He can say with certainty that his life wouldn't be the same and that it's demonstrably better today because of the friendships he's fostered through Mu. "I learned as much from the people at Colgate as I did in any classroom, and none more so than the guys that I was surrounded by in Mu," Joe said. "Aside from having a lot of fun, looking back 20 years later I realize that I grew in my ability to function efficiently in a large group, understand personality nuances, accommodate conflicting viewpoints, and generally learn how to work with people. The guys who I remained friends with over the last 20 years have continued to teach me skills that apply to my personal and professional life." While Joe is pleased with McKinney's growth and recent partnerships with the likes of ESPN and Procter & Gamble, he's particularly proud of how his company and DKE have focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. A new head of diversity, equity, and inclusion position has just been created at McKinney and the company is also funding scholarships for Black students. You can read more about McKinney's efforts to end social injustice at mckinney.com/diversity-at-mckinney. "We're starting by making an impact within our company by educating one another, creating a more comfortable working environment, and making sure that we have the right people in the right seats," Joe said. "Addressing this will not only make us stronger as a society, but research has shown that a more diverse workforce is better business." Joe has been thankful to work from home during these unprecedented times, which has allowed him to spend more time with his wife and two daughters. He's also stayed in touch virtually with his Mu brothers and can't wait to see them soon. You can connect with Joe at joseph.maglio@gmail.com.
