Update on Unexpected Expenses from Spring 2020 With the COVID-19 pandemic emerging last spring, the chapter house, like many other places, shut down in March. We issued refunds to the members to the tune of nearly $80,000. We paid our cook staff a stipend to help with the unemployment and dispersed the perishable non-freezable foods to the house director, chefs, and local food pantries. We froze what we could to store for this school year. Unfortunately, in April, the freezer had a sensor fail and we lost the remainder of the frozen food. We could only claim a minimal amount (less than $170) on insurance and were informed it would not raise our insurance. Precautionary Health Safety Measures at Alpha Delta The Affiliated House Corporation had all furniture, rugs, floors, bathrooms, and tile cleaned professionally and will do so on a regular basis moving forward. Along with the cleaning of the heating/cooling filters, we had an extra filtering system installed in the three high-traffic areas of the house (dining/chapter room, alumnae lounge, and alumnae library). These filters were individually placed within each HVAC unit in these rooms, and they guarantee the removal of 95% of airborne germs within a 30-minute period and over 50% within just 15 minutes. This expense was approximately $8,000, but we felt a good investment for the health of our members going forward as it filters all flu-like and many other viruses from the air. Chapter House to Remain Open for Entire Fall Semester As some colleges and universities around the country did not open this fall, or they are planning an early exit with the remainder of the semester following Thanksgiving break going to online only, the University of Missouri has not made such a plan as of this publication. Even so, the Gamma Phi Beta house will remain open for the collegiate members as it is a learning environment and the women would rather complete their semester on campus. Alpha Delta Shines On Alpha Delta Chapter is strong and moving forward despite this year's challenges. Following an all-virtual recruitment, chapter, new member meetings, and no outsiders allowed in the house, the women are navigating a new normal. Even though we would love for you to visit the chapter house and see the beautiful remodel, we are currently not allowing anyone in the house to protect the health and safety of our collegiate members. We are hoping by January 2021 that we will be able to resume all in-person events and once again welcome alumnae to the chapter house. Chapter's Centennial in 2021 As we transition from the capital campaign to our 100th celebration in April 2021, we hope many of you will be able to return to Columbia and especially to the chapter house for a true celebration of Alpha Delta Chapter at the University of Missouri.
