Main St. Quartzsite Police Department (QPD) Chief William Ponce issued the following statement on October 22, 2020: "On October 21, 2020 Offi cers with the Quartzsite Police Department assisted the Arizona Department of Child Services (DCS.) Misinforma- tion is being spread about the re- moval of a child and we wanted to clarify the process. Arizona DCS has a process to remove a child and that process includes going through the courts for an order to do so. Chil- dren are simply not removed with- out case or due process. As with any case involving juve- niles, we are not at liberty to discuss the matters involving specifi c cases. Arizona Revised Statutes provide clear and concise guidance regard- ing these matters. The Quartzsite Police Department does not simply remove children or allow the re- moval of childfen by a third party unless an order from a judge is in place instructing this removal. The Internal Revenue Service is never going to call you and ask for you to make a payment over the phone. They are never ever going to ask you to make a payment via gift card or wire transfer. Please keep this in mind if you re- ceive a call from anyone asking for personal information or payment over the phone. There are far too many people falling for these scams and making payments to criminals. Don't let yourself, friends or loved ones be a victim. If someone calls you saying they're the IRS, APS or any other govern- ment/business and they're asking for payment of any kind over the phone, don't do it. No reputable source is going to ask you to make a payment via gift card or wire transfer. IRS won't call you Congratulations to retired As- sistant Quartzsite Fire Chief Jose Lizarraga for his hard work teach- ing TIMs (Traffi c Incident Manage- ment) classes for ADOT (Arizona Dept. of Transportation.) Also special thanks for help- ing to save countless lives through the presentation of the Traffi c In- cident Management training and making our road ways safer!
