S
ometimes, and quite possibly
more of ten in this par ticu lar
time in histor y, simply mak ing
it through the day feels li ke a
supreme accomplishment. Tak ing care
of ourselves, our ow n fami lies, our ow n
homes feels li ke a prett y f u l l plate.
A l l of which makes the five people we
have selected to profi le on the fol low ing
pages that much more remarkable. For
years, they have made a dif ference in our
communit y and in the lives of others,
finding ways to give of their time, talent
and treasure despite active lives of their
ow n.
Dec. 1 is the date for this year's
Giv ing Tuesday, a global initiative that
encourages people to do good. The event,
now in its ninth year, helps ensure that
ever y act of generosit y, no matter how
large and smal l, makes our communit y
better.
This year, Cumberland Communit y
Foundation has generously of fered to
match up to $100,000 of donations it
receives bet ween Nov. 24 and Dec. 3. Take
a look at some of the ways the givers in this
issue have chosen to make a dif ference.
