He spent six seasons in the NFL and played on the same Chicago Bear team with Hall of Famer Bronko Nagurski. He made coaching stops at Appalachian State, North Carolina State and Texas Tech before arriving at Wake Forest. In his last two years with the Camels, Lovett played on teams that went 47-10. He was named Campbell's Outstanding Male Athlete and earned third team NAIA All-American honors. McNeill has been sharing his articles with Lovett, but only recently learned that Lovett has been blind since 2000 due to a case of meningitis. He lives in an assisted living facility in Maryland.
