DTD e Shield Beta Alpha House Corporation P.O. Box 35 Bedford, IN 47421-0035 Address Service Requested G eorge Bray '73 came to Indiana University from a small town in Kentucky, not knowing anyone on campus. He decided to go through the fraternity recruitment process to connect with a larger group on campus. After visiting with the young men of Delta Tau Delta, George knew he found the right fit. As an active member of Beta Alpha Chapter, George lived in the chapter house for three and a half years. "Those were the greatest years of my life thanks to the friendships I made with my brothers," George said. He enjoyed spending time with his brothers doing everything from intramural sports, ping pong, pinball, and attending chapter events. "What stood out to me was being able to do all of that while developing strong study habits," George said. "It showed me that I can have a good time while also being disciplined." During his junior year, George won the academic award in the house for holding the best grades. Thanks to his accomplishments, George was elected as pledge trainer during his senior year. In this position, he grew his skill set that helped him throughout his career. "It was a leadership position where the younger guys looked up to me," George said. "It was a good way to begin to recognize that I had good leadership skills." George spent the majority of his career working for international trade associations in pharmaceutical distributions. "I actually started working in college during the summers," George said. "I knew what I wanted to go into because my grandfather and father were in the business before me." His highest positions was with AmerisourceBergen where he held the position of regional vice president for the largest region in the United States, making up nearly 20 states. Later in his career, George became a certified executive coach, which allowed him to travel to Africa to teach leadership development courses. Today, George is running for mayor in his hometown of Paducah, Kentucky, which has engulfed the majority of his time. Thanks to being a Delt, he was able to connect with Greg Ballard '78, the former mayor of Indianapolis, and Jim Lienhoop '75, the mayor of Columbus, Indiana. "They offered me some insight into politics and community leadership," George said. George decided to run for mayor because he felt it was good timing with his primary career coming to an end as he was starting to get more involved in community efforts. He is chairman of the board for Paducah's local airport and serves on several other boards, including the Boys and Girls Club. Before the pandemic hit, George would host fundraisers and meet with community members on a regular basis. However, once the pandemic hit, his team was forced to adjust their strategy to utilize social media and other virtual mediums. "I even published my cell phone number to everyone in my city in case they have any questions for me," George said. "This is something unique to other candidates that I feel makes me pretty accessible during these times." Once things return to somewhat normal, George is looking forward to getting together with his fellow alumni brothers for a few rounds of golf in Bloomington.
