Once a Seahawk ... A PUBLICATION FOR ALUMNI, PARENTS, AND FRIENDS OF BISHOP SEABURY ACADEMY 2020 FALL Our summer at Bishop Seabury Academy was a busy one. We evaluated and redesigned our online learning program from the spring, finalized a new strategic plan, and published a revised mission statement on our brand-new school website. Furthermore, we developed a detailed reopening plan, finished construction on our campus expansion, outfitted the new building with furniture and technology, and prepared all classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, and other spaces for the reopening protocols. We began the school year in connected learning, and after Labor Day, we were able to return to campus with a slightly changed schedule, daily screenings, constant sanitizing of desks and chairs, six-foot distancing in our classrooms, and masks on every student. Our objective has been to offer the strongest possible education to our students, whether online or in person, knowing that conditions in the community could require us to be in one or the other at any time during the year. Our return to campus was possible because of the generosity of many people who made our expansion possible. Stepping into the new building for the first time in six months, our students marveled at the stone archway, expansive commons, spacious science facilities, and many additional, newly outfitted classrooms. The timing of our construction was fortuitous, as we needed every inch! Among the many lessons we have learned during the pandemic, here is a big one: Going to school should never be taken for granted. Thanks to the deep commitment of our faculty and staff, the support of our parent body, and the good nature and adaptability of our students, we have surmounted incredible obstacles. Despite the uncertainty in our world, we are reinforcing the stability of our home and a sense of pride and community for our children. Yours respectfully, Dr. Don Schawang Head of School Adapting and Preparing for a New School Year The 10 Coolest Features of the New Building S tudents, faculty, and staff are enjoying the new building. We would have held an open house for all Seahawk families by now, but we continue to refrain from large gatherings and events. Here you will get a glimpse of the amazing features of the new building! (Continued on page 2) The Almanza Union is the entire new addition that connects Reese Hall and our original building to create one amazing school! The Hill Family Hall of Alumniā€”a special place to see our school's graduates and history. "Pursue excellence in mind, body, and spirit."
